Hello everyone
I hope everyone had a great weekend! For us, it was a weekend of catching up with friends we haven’t seen in over a year.
Today, I’m going to focus on small bathrooms and how you can make them look bigger and better with color and design tricks.
For a small bathroom, you want maximum impact for a limited amount of space. The room shouldn’t make you feel claustrophobic. You want to make it appear bigger than it actually is. This can be achieved by use of color, textures and light. Yes, it can be done!
In our small guest bathroom, I helped achieve this look by choosing large tiles (natural stone) for the floor. Also, I placed the tiles in a diagonal pattern, because horizontal or vertical tiles in a small room draw attention to its small size. I felt that the tiles alone were a little too plain, so to add some color and contrast I added green marble mosaic inserts. Still, the large floor tiles determined the color scheme for the rest of the room, green and cream.
The pedestal sink I chose was small, but large enough for the task. It was a perfect choice and size for a bathroom of this size. By using a pedestal sink and having textured walls, I created the illusion of extra space in my bathroom.
I nicknamed this bathroom our spa because it has a shower and a Jacuzzi bath.
If I do say so myself, it’s beautiful! I love walking by the bathroom and seeing the color of green and cream throughout. It’s so warm and inviting.
I’m going to share with you some “tips” to help you make your guest bathroom look just as inviting, looking bright and bigger than it actually is.
First, install a glass shower enclosure. This will make your small bathroom look bigger because it allows you to see from one end of the room to the other.
When choosing a color, select pastel tone, neutrals and whites for backgrounds. It makes the room look spacious. If you want to have a feeling of serenity, then choose a cool color, like blue, green and violet.
I like the use of green and white patterned look. It’s so soothing to look at.
Good lighting opens up the look of a bathroom and adds interest. Recessed lighting allows you to focus on particular spots to give more light. If you’d like to add more warmth to the bathroom, use wall sconces.
To create a feeling of openness, consider adding a large mirror. Mirrors will reflect all the light in the room and pick up the color and pattern. If you want a more style, consider a collection of mirrors instead of a larger one.
And, a final tip, choose smaller or thinner fixtures on the walls, because less is sometimes more in smaller bathrooms.
